
Frost hardy evergreen shrub - Tropical style garden plant - Grows well in sun or shade
Also known as Japanese arolia, false caster oil and fatsi. Native to southern Japan and Taiwan. Fatsia Japonica is an evergreen shrub with large leathery, palmate lobed leaves. It produces small creamy-white flowers in dense terminal compound umbels in late autumn or early winter, followed by small black fruit. Will reach 3 - 6 meters in height. Will look great in a tropical style garden. Grows well in full sun or shade. It can also be grown as an indoor plant and has been shown to effectively remove gaseous formaldehyde from indoor air. Please note: Fatsia Japonica is toxic to pets if consumed.

Suitable for pots, flower beds, borders and rockeries. Grows well in full sun or shade. Can be grown outdoors or indoors. Will benefit from protection from winter frost. Prefers moist soil but will tolerate dry conditions.
Maintanence level 2 - Fatsia Japonica will need watering during the dry season until the plant is well developed. This plant should not need any pruning and can generally be left to grow, however you may need to remove some faded leaves after the frosty season just to keep it looking fresh. This plant is frost hardy however it will benfit from being protected against the frost over winter. Top up with fresh soil once a year.
