Native to Eurasia and Africa. Also known as wood violet. Viola Riviniana is a a rhizamotous evergreen summer flowering, which grows well as a ground cover and gap filling plant. It has dark green, heart-shaped leaves and produces multiple violet coloured flowers in May and June. Will attract butterflies. Deadhead to prolong flowering. Grows well in wet acidic wet soil, and is usually found in woodlands, grasslands and shady hedge banks. This plant will self seed. Keep soil well watered. To propagate divide clumps in late summer.
