Also known as Canary Palm, grown for its sweet date fruits as well as its tropical appeal. Date palm can reach up to 60 - 110ft growingly singly or forming a clump with several stems from a single root. The leaves are long spines with leaflets. Grows well I’m full sun sheltered from the wind in well drained soil. Drought resistant.
Dates can be used in a variety of dishes or processed into a syrup, powdered to form sugar or fermented to produce wine.
The leaves of date palm can be used to make furniture, boxes baskets and clothing. And the wooden stem can be used as fire wood.
