Bell pepper seeds also known as sweet pepper or capsicum are warm season vegetables from the nighshade family. Grown for its sweet or spicy fruit, thriving in full sun, fertile, well-drained soil, and requires consistent water and warm.
Start seeds indoor with heat 20C from February to April in shallow moist compost, germinating in 1 - 2 weeks. Once seedlings have true leaves, pot them up and grow in a warm, bright spot (greenhouse/sunny windowsill) before transplanting outside to a sheltered, sunny location in late spring in May. They need warmth and light, can be grown in pots, and benefit from staking and feeding once fruit set.
Pinch out the the tip of the main stem once your plants get to about 30cm tall. This will encourage the growth of more sideshoots and a bigger crop of peppers. Stake taller peppers with canes and string, or train them on supports.
Peppers can be grown as perennial if brought indoors over the winter, however they do not survive the frosty weather and are usually grown as an annual.

Protect young plants from slugs and snails if growing peppers outdoors.
